DCMR Environmental Protection Agency

History

The Environmental Protection Agency (DCMR) was established on 20 December 1971. Its tasks included:

  • monitoring and enforcement of environmental regualtions;
  • accepting and handling environmental complaints;
  • monitoring and measuring noise and air quality;
  • advising governments on the implementation of the Environment Act and other environmental matters.

The Central Reporting and Control Room for Air Pollution (CMRK), which has existed for several years, was then transferred to DCMR. In th eyears 1973-1989, several other Rijnmond municipalities transferred their environmental powers to DCMR.

Today, DCMR is the joint environmental department of the province of South Holland and 14 municipalities in the Rijnmond and Goeree-Overflakkee region.
