Recreational services
History
Recreational services are partnerships between muncipalities and the province. Their aim is to develop, manage and operate facilities for outdoor recreation and outside the city, such as swimming ponds, picnic areas, cycle paths, footpaths and canoe routes. In the Rijnmond area, the first recreational serevices came into being in the 1960s. Because of rapid urbanisation, the need for new places for recreation grew.
Research in the archives of the Boards of recreation
The Rotterdam City Archives holds the archives of the recreational services: Oude Maas, Rottemeren, IJsselmonde and of the Koepelschap Buitenstedelijk Groen. Unfortunately, no accesses are available for these archives, with the exception of:
- Recreatieschap Rottemeren (1966-1989), in Dutch.
Anyone can view this archive in the reading room of the City Archives.
